We’re known as the best place in Charlotte for houseplants for a reason, our garden center is stocked with indoor plants that not only help purify air but also make great decorative elements in any room.
Air Purification
In the 1980s NASA conducted a study (read it here) to explore if common houseplants are improving air quality. They specifically examined the air pollutants benzene, trichloroethylene, and formaldehyde – all of which are not uncommon in our homes. One can imagine that air quality in hermetically sealed space stations is a huge deal thus NASA’s interest in air purifying plants. The study compares the different reduction levels of the three pollutants achieved with a dozen or so potted plants in a nifty NASA contraption.
With our homes being better and better insulated and more energy efficient we are also reducing the exchange of fresh air with indoor air so it’s worth looking at ways to improve air quality. Some of the plants that excelled at reducing pollutants are Janet Craig, Bamboo Palm, Marginata, English Ivy, Golden Pothos, and Gerbera Daisy.
Stylish, Green Decoration
Now to the more obvious benefit of indoor plants. They look great and add the finishing touch to your rooms’ decor. Notice how you always see plants, flowers, or beautiful fruit displays in home design magazines? Plants add life and ground a room. Especially with bare trees and dormant grass outside during the Carolina winter, pops of green inside your home can really brighten up your day.
