Tanglefoot and tree banding material are in stock now!

Beware of the cankerworm! Not only does this little fella get really annoying when he gets tangled in your hair, he also presents a fierce enemy to Charlotte’s beautiful tree canopy. This time of year the Alsophila Pometraria moth crawls up tree stems and lays her eggs on twigs and small branches. In the spring when those eggs hatch, small green caterpillars will start looking for nourishment and your trees’ leaves just so happen to be in reach of their hungry mouths. While the cankerwoms usually won’t kill your trees, they can seriously weaken your trees, making them more susceptible to drought, disease or parasite damage.

This time of year is perfect to stop the moths in their climb up your trees to lay cankerworm eggs. Tree banding has long been a campaign that the city of Charlotte does for public trees but it is up to you, dear homeowner, to band your yard’s trees. One of the more popular products, Tanglefoot, is unfortunately unavailable as the manufacturer has gone out of business. We have however sourced a Tanglefoot substitute that satisfies our stringent quality requirements. The first shipment arrived this morning. Update Fall 2016: Tanglefoot is back in stock at Blackhawk Hardware!Cankerworm protection is easy with tree banding. Get your material at Blackhawk Hardware!
