Have you ever wondered how these amazing shabby chic or hipster refurbished furniture pieces are made? Blackhawk Hardware has the perfect paint to transform those beautiful flee market pieces that are everywhere on Pinterest and in home design magazines: CeCe Caldwell’s Paint. The company’s products are almost all made in the USA and are free of toxins. CeCe’s Paints also pride themselves for being green and using recycled packaging. How about that!? Ideal for furniture and DIY, this paint is a natural chalk and clay based paint that you may have also heard of as “milk paint”. The line also includes waxes, stains and a few products to enhance the furniture’s finish such as aging cream and aging dust.
No Sanding!
One of the hardest things for me when it comes to repainting something is being patient with prepwork. Luckily, CeCe Caldwell Paint does not require sanding or priming. Gotta love being able to immediately transform a piece instead of dealing with the mess of sanding!
Best Way to Layer Paint!
Once I’ll tell you it’ll be obvious but a lot of these beautiful finishes are achieved by layering two paint tones, either very similar or contrasting tones. You’ll start with a coat of the base color and then create a wash with your secondary color or using it as is and paint it over the first. A little damp wiping will bring out that first color in a weathered-looking style. Beautiful and so amazingly easy! Finish up with a coat of wax and you’ve got yourself a one-of-a-kind item.
