Last week as I was walking through the store, I noticed an intriguing display – a tray of colorful gadgets called the DISPOSAL GENIE.

Having just the previous evening damaged a good spoon in my disposal, my meeting with THE GENIE was more than pure chance. After reading the sign, I bought one and took it right to its new home in my kitchen sink.

I have recently had a run of butter spreaders, teaspoons and salad forks fall unnoticed down the tube, and upon cranking the disposal there was that disconcerting sound of something being ground that shouldn’t be ground! A disheartening retrieval of the damaged items revealed ugly, pitted cutlery, and the resultant mix of anger and disappointment.

My daughter came over this weekend, and upon seeing the bright turquoise plug in the sink asked : “What is this?” I explained to her and she enthusiastically announced: “I want one in my stocking!”
