This weekend Blackhawk Hardware is proud to support a fabulous cause, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, by hosting their Charlotte bake sale. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer is a national 501(c)3 non-profit with the mission of supporting the development of less toxic and more effective treatment options for children affected by cancer. Faced with this tragedy when their own toddler son was diagnosed with cancer, charity founders Gretchen and Larry Witt were shocked to learn how underfunded childhood cancer research is. According to the charity’s website, less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget goes to all childhood cancers combined. So far, through bake sales and other community outreach programs, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer has been able to support the development of nine treatments for childhood cancer! We’re hoping this weekend’s bake sale at Blackhawk will make an impact in funding research for treatment #10.
