Remember back a decade or two ago to those plastic utensils we used in our Teflon cookware so we wouldn’t mar the finish?   They were awful – thick and inflexible and they also melted alarmingly easily in hot pots and pans.  It was inevitable that they would soon meet their demise with a series of blisters and bumps.

Today there is a plethora of silicone utensils that are a great combination of  functionality and bright, happy-making color!  The silicone utensils are nice and thin and the ones I bought for my personal use have a great combination of metal in just the right places.  The edges are really refined so they can slide under pancakes, brownies and cookies without damaging either the baked goods or your coated cookware.

My first silicone potholder, ten or more years ago, seemed to be a breakthrough product.  Yet it was hard and inflexible and, because I didn’t feel confident that I had a good grip on a hot cookie sheet, I pretty much used it as a trivet.

Silicone potholders have really evolved into a must-have product. I’m loving my new, colorful silicone potholders by Charles Viancin™.    They are every bit as flexible as a fabric potholder.  They are useful for getting a good grip on a hot and heavy pot.  They are useful as trivets and I also appreciate how they can be used to twist open a pesky lid.  They are oven safe, microwavable, and when soiled, you merely drop them into the dishwasher.

We’ve come a long way, baby!

NOTE: There is an abundance of different styles and types of silicone cookware and potholders in our Housewares Department.
