When I moved this summer, I downsized a fair amount.  My kitchen is definitely smaller with less storage, so it’s been a squeeze.  I have one less drawer and it’s amazing the impact that makes when configuring the most efficient way to store items.  I have a set of knives that I use all the time.  In this house my knives had to be mixed into a drawer with a myriad other utensils.

I decided a knife block would be a necessity.  I had some criteria.  It needed to be a reasonable price.  It needed to accommodate my assortment of knives and a pair of kitchen scissors. I soon found that this combination was going to be a tall order.  I shopped fairly extensively and looked online.  Either the knife blocks were too expensive, they didn’t have a spot for scissors, or they were not configured to what I needed.

I had pretty much determined that nothing would work for me unless I bought some more knives to fill the slots in the bigger blocks.  I didn’t really want to do that though.  Then I happened to be passing through the main drag in our Housewares Department when Mary and Bette were unpacking a load of very interesting-looking merchandise.  I stopped in my tracks.  What are these? I asked.  They giggled as they said “Kapoosh” in unison!  OMG they were knife blocks!

What fascinating objects!  They showed me the variety of styles we have – black, stainless and wood ones that come in two styles.  But the innovative part is the black interior that is made up of little rods – and get this – it pulls out and can periodically be put in the dishwasher so you know the place where you keep your knives is sanitary.  I love to know my things are clean and sanitary.  I got to thinking: How on earth would you do this with a wooden knife block?  I was immediately SOLD– this was the answer to my knife block hunt – it’s like having a custom knife block – you can put in it 6 knives or 15.  And did I mention that the price was great compared to other knife blocks I’d seen?

I bought one that very day.  The two step wooden one.  I couldn’t wait to get home with my new Kapoosh™.

On the way home I was thinking my scissors might have to stay in the drawer, but when I got home I gave them a try and they work in it. I washed it in the dishwasher before using it.  It sits on the counter beside my stove.  Now I don’t know how I managed all these years without a knife block.

Let me introduce you to my Kapoosh!

I LOVE my Kapoosh!  I’ve had it a couple of months now and I dip into it multiple times a day to grab my French chef knife, my carver, one of my pairers, my scissors…………….. and I adore that if I were to invest in another knife or another knife set at some point, my Kapoosh would still be usable.  It’s my number one new love in the kitchen!

You would love a Kapoosh; you should get one too.  And think about Christmas gift giving – now here’s an idea!  Check out all our Kapooshes in the Housewares Department!
